Strengthening Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) through improving surveillance and building sustainable capacity at Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly [LEKMA] Hospital, Greater Accra, Ghana.

Goal


To establish and evaluate a functional model for AMS as a centre of excellence with an appropriate cultural shift in attitudes to AMR for potential roll-out; by strengthening systems and processes for Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) through improving surveillance, building sustainable capacity and capability of the workforce on antimicrobial prescribing practices in LEKMA Hospital, Ghana.


Objectives/Targets

  • Establishment of a surveillance system that enables monitoring of antimicrobial prescribing, use and resistance in LEKMA Hospita.l
  • 5-10% reduction in overall antimicrobial prescriptions [measured using Defined Daily Dose (DDD)] in LEKMA Hospital.
  • 20-30% increase in the proportion of prescribers and dispensers demonstrating appropriate knowledge on AMR and antimicrobial prescribing practices in LEKMA Hospital.

  • Establishing a baseline / benchmark, including development of tools
  • Implementation of the Global Point Prevalence Survey.
  • Establishing/developing governance structure for AMR and AMS
  • Delivering a training package on AMR, AMS and IPC
  • Establishing/developing audit / monitoring / evaluation processes
  • Establishing a strong partnership based on mutual and equal partnership roles and responsibilities within agreed governance arrangements [Memorandum of Understanding].
